About This Project

On May 25th, 2026 the Veterans Memorial Park Board hosted a Memorial Day Commemoration at the Park’s Flag Pavilion.  Students from Wichita’s Mead Middle School presented the Colors and MG (Retired) David Weishaar was the keynote speaker.  General Weishaar (former Kansas Adjutant General) reminded us that we should never forget those from previous generations who sacrificed their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today.  The Rifle Team from American Legion Post 4 provided a 3-volley salute and Bugler John Noonan sounded Taps to conclude the ceremony.  Shortly afterwards at the Kansas Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Delano Wind Ensemble performed a concert with an array of patriotic songs, including “Stars and Stripes Forever”.
