About This Project

On July 4th, 2026, a commemoration was held to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, marking the birthday of the USA.  A good crowd was on hand to experience several weather changes during the 30-minute event, including sunshine, cloud cover, wind gusts and even a little rain.  This did not dampen the enthusiasm or hinder the proceedings which featured the presentation of the Colors by the Tornado Alley Young Marines, the National Anthem played by bugler John Noonan and the Invocation by Tom Huxtable.  After recognizing Veterans, SAR and DAR members in attendance, Retired USAF Colonel John Madia spoke about three aspects of Independence Day that make it stand out for him.  Following John Noonan’s rendition of Amazing Grace, the Marine Corps League rifle detail fired a 3-volley salute just before the sounding of Taps to conclude the ceremony.  //  Photos courtesy of Mike Nash.
