About This Project

To commemorate the Civil War ending 156 years ago today (the day when historians consider the final surrender was signed.)

The Milan Bell was rung at exactly 3:45 PM to call the ceremony to order. A memorial wreath was laid at the Reconciliation Monument by the Flag Pavilion, a chaplain said a prayer of thanksgiving that our country, so deeply divided, was reconciled and a trumpet duet performed the National Anthem and “Echo” “Taps.”
