About This Project

Known as “Victory over Japan Day,” or simply “VJ Day,” the term is used to refer to September 2, 1945. On that date, the Empire of Japan’s formal surrender took place aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Bay. This ceremony formally ended World War Two. (SOURCE: History.com, V-J Day.)

WVMP held a brief ceremony at the Park’s World War Two Memorial (“Kilroy”) to commemorate the anniversary of this significant date in world history. The ceremony included a chaplain invocation, speaker, gun salute and bugler playing both “The Star Spangled Banner” (National Anthem) and “Taps.”
