About This Project

With every new war, soldiers are called to the front lines to fight for their country. World War II had over 400,000 American casualties, then 58,000 during the Vietnam War, and more recently, with conflicts in the Middle East, American casualties have decreased to slightly over 6,000. Every lost soldier has made the ultimate sacrifice, and the US Navy Hospital Corps Memorial recognizes the medical officers and their efforts during each of these conflicts.

 

Standing next to the United States Marine Corp League Memorial, the US Navy Hospital Corps memorial honors the medical advancements throughout history. The black granite tablet reads: “In recognition of those U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsmen who served with the fleet marine force in peacetime and in war”. A caduceus, the symbol for the U.S Army medical officers, is centered on the memorial, with a Marine Corp emblem in each corner.
