DESCRIPTION:“Taps” will be played on the bugle and a memorial wreath will be laid at the Pearl Harbor Memorial. This to honor the 2\,008 sailors were killed and 710 others wounded;  218 soldiers and airmen (who were part of the Army prior to the independent United States Air Force in 1947) were killed and 364 wounded; 109 Marines were killed and 69 wounded; and 68 civilians were killed and 35 wounded. In total\, 2\,403 Americans were killed\, and 1\,143 were wounded.

DESCRIPTION:The Tolling of the Boats ceremony honors and remembers all lost submarines and submarine sailors of the United States Navy. The ceremony was initiated by the United States Submarine Veterans of World War II to remember their lost friends and shipmates lost during World War II. DESCRIPTION:“Codenamed Operation Overlord\, the battle began on June 6\, 1944\, also known as D-Day\, when some 156\,000 American\, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region. The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history…. The amphibious invasions began at 6:30 a.m. \n“U.S. forces faced heavy resistance at Omaha Beach\, where there were over 2\,000 American casualties. However\, by day’s end\, approximately 156\,000 Allied troops had successfully stormed Normandy’s beaches.
