Victory Over Japan (VJ) Day Commemoration

Known as “Victory over Japan Day,” or simply “V-J Day,” the term is used to refer to September 2, 1945. On that date, the Empire of Japan’s formal surrender took place aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Bay.  (SOURCE:, V-J Day.)

WVMP will hold a brief ceremony at the Park’s World War Two Memorial including:

  • Wreath laying at the WW2 Memorial by the Flag Pavilion
  • Chaplain
  • Playing “Taps” on the trumpet
