CANCELED: Commemoration of 9/11 and the Global War on Terror

This event is canceled due to forecast rain.  //  This ceremony will be held in Veterans Memorial Park at the Operation Freedom Memorial, which honors and remembers all those Americans who served in Desert Storm, Desert Shield, those who died on 9/11/01 and those who served in the subsequent Global War on Terror, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Inherent Resolve.  The event will start with the presentation of the colors by the McConnell AFB Honor Guard, playing of the National Anthem and opening prayer.  After the speaker’s remarks there will be a closing prayer, 3-volley rifle salute and playing of Taps.  This year the event will focus on remembering the events of 9/11, paying tribute to Emergency Responders.  The guest speaker will be David Wilson, 33-year Wichita Fire Department veteran (now retired) and curator of the Kansas Firefighters Museum.

This event is open to the public but since seating will be limited, visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
