About This Project

On July 4th, 2024 an Independence Day Commemoration was held at Wichita’s Veterans Memorial Park.  The Colors were presented by the 22nd Air Refueling Wing (McConnell AFB) Honor Guard.  Buglers Don Hansen and John Noonan played the National Anthem and concluded the ceremony by sounding Taps.  The guest speaker was retired USMC Sergeant Major Richard Lewallen.  The Marine Corps League rifle detail provided a 3-volley salute.  The event commemorated America’s 248th birthday, continuing a tradition that started in 1777, just one year after the Declaration of Independence was signed.  Photos are courtesy of Mike Nash.
