About This Project

The town of Milan, Kansas donated a beautiful 32″ diameter (at the base) bell to Wichita Veterans Memorial Park. The concrete base that held the Park’s current bell needed to be expanded to hold the larger Milan bell.

The bell had hung in the belltower of the Milan Baptist Church from 1892-1962. Then it was moved to the Milan City Park where it stood until being donated to WVMP during the summer, 2020.

On the coldest day in the winter of 2020 – 2021, in temperatures 27° (F) and a wind chill of 14°(F) and a westerly wind blowing across the frozen Arkansas River into the Park, Tim Sutherland and his crew along with WVMP Director “Skip” Ward mounted the bell.

For more images and add’l information about this bell’s history and donation, see the “‘Baptist Bell’ Donated to WVMP From Milan, KS” gallery under the 2020 galleries tab.
